Ahmadinejad is not OBAMA: Facebook is Banned

facebook_bannedObama’s success in attracting voters during his presidential campaign, didn’t sound good news for Ahmadinejad, the president of Islamic Republic of Iran. Iran news reports said that Facebook has been blocked access ahead of June presidential polls, allegedly to prevent supporters of the leading opposition candidate from using the site for his campaign.

Facebook has confirmed that they received reports that Iranian users saying it has been blocked from using their service. Facebook spokesperson said to AFP: ” We are disappointed to learn of reports that users in Iran may not have access to Facebook”. He added: “It is always a shame when countries’ cultural and political concerns lead to limits being placed on the opportunity for sharing and expression that the Internet provides.”

Added to this, I’m concerned that other social networking sites would join the banned-list like Youtube.com where candidates can share their views through videos, or twitter.com where the meme can spread in minutes. Also, the question lies here: Will the next country’s president allow Facebook usage again?
