UAE Telecom Regulator Will Continue Pushing Local Domain Names

ae_logoThe UAE’s telecoms regulator will continue to raise awareness of the country’s website domain names at this year’s GITEX Technology Week as well as the ICT foundation.

According to Gitex Preview, TRA will take the opportunity to highlight it’s plan to take the process of selling domain names away from incumbent operator Etisalat. Mohamed Al Ghanim, Director General of TRA, says that the priority was to boost interest in .ae domain name and that to increase the number of .ae sites being registered control of the registration process was passed on.

He also added that Second-Level domain names are restricted to UAE-only companies in order to maintain trust in people who are doing electronic transactions.

TRA has signed a contract with local IT service provider, Injazat, to market and register .ae website domains in UAE.
