Your name on passport?

Samer El Sahn

What’s your dream name?

I am known online with the name Slayer; there is a band called Slayer I’m not sure if they’ve taken the cool name from me.

How old are you?

31, although the guys here at eSpace make me feel that I am still in the early twenties; right guys?

How did you feel yourself that you are a geek?

When I was 10-year-old kid, I used to miss a lot of activities at school like football and basket ball games except my computer club, it was my star club. From then I got hooked up and I wasn’t able to keep my hands off gadgets or computers.

Geek at eSpace?

My work it to be between challenging technologies and helping out clients with solutions and best practices. But to be honest, I’m also between the foosball and wii games with the gang at eSpace. I love the most the open management day with all eSpace guys, a meeting everyday Sunday open to share ideas, debate, and discuss company decisions frankly and it would be our Facebook news feed on what we did over the weekend.

Geek at homeSpace?

All I can say is that my wife got jealous from my iphone 🙁

Prove to me that you are a geek?

Virtualized a server into three virtual instances, then clustered these virtual instances in one cluster on a Linux Machine. After that I tried to span this experiment to cluster 6 virtual instances on 2 server into one cluster. Don’t ask me why.

Tarek: Who said that I would?

As a meOwns founder, on which criteria do you compare it in terms of performance against other social networks?

meOwns is eSpace playground for web 3.0 researches. Social mining and trends detection. We are not looking at it as a social network, we are just a bunch of technology geeks playing around, and that was the output.

But this question about social networks in Middle East specifically, what is the clicking point for having successful engagement and retention?

Any social network must have three major basics

  1. Community and content
  2. Technology to build the community and help in communicating the content
  3. Money generation for survival.

Missing any point will doom the community.

Bring your geekiness up and tell me if you wish that eSpace was MySpace?

Well, it’s another type of space which is meant for Arab entrepreneurs to provide incubation, fund, and advice. I mean something like Paul Graham’s Y Combinator. It’s eventually my dream.

Who is your geek freak?

oldmoe, my good old friend

What’s your favorite app?

Gmail

When’s your favorite nap?

Disappointing, I would like to take a nap in the mid of the day, but never had it.

If you weren’t geek, what would you be?

If I wasn’t a geek like what’s I’m on right now, I would be Samer, who is the geek by nature. Got that?
