RUMORS: Yahoo! Maktoob To Restructure and Relocate

maktoob_com_logoYahoo! to finalize Maktoob acquisition in the next two weeks.  Yet, there are rumors from two close sources that Yahoo! Maktoob will be restructuring and relocating.

The first rumor says that Yahoo! Maktoob will shift their offices from Dubai to Amman, which means closing their offices and presence in UAE. Another rumor says Yahoo! Maktoob offices will shift their sales operations to Amman while retaining their offices in Dubai Media City.

My point of view is Yahoo! Maktoob should retain their physical presence in Dubai Media City for it’s strategic opportunities of partnerships with media agencies who are bringing them online advertising business. If Yahoo! Maktoob decides to shift to Amman, let’s not forget that Amman is becoming the technology talent pool and center of technological companies and start-ups in the Middle East that allows new HR capital and partnerships opportunities as well – Amman is becoming Middle East’s Silicon Valley.

In order to get official response from Maktoob, we will be contacting Maktoob offices in Dubai on Sunday to investigate more about their restructure and/or relocation rumors. In case you have more information or details, you can share with us by commenting on this article or emailing via info(@)interactiveme.com the un-confidential information only please.

UPDATE 1 (12:36 pm Abu Dhabi Time, October 24th): Ahmad Nassef, GM of Maktoob, has responded to the article by commenting that it’s not true and that they are committed to operate in both countries. He said: “No need to wait until Sunday! I can tell you right now that neither rumor is even close to true. We continue to be committed to both our operations in Dubai and Amman, and over the coming months, you will continue to see further investment in both locations.” Therefore, it’s official that Maktoob is not shifting/moving their operations from Dubai as the rumors claimed.
